When at the character select screen (only in racing) hold Y and push A and your chacter will become small. This will not effect speed whatsoever, it will only make it so your opponents can run you over to slow you down. Hold Y and push A to make yourself big again.
______________________________________________________________________________________

| Hold Y, then push A | Shrink your racer |
Go to Time Trial, put the cursor on Mushroom Cup and press: L,R,L,R,L,L,R,R,A. If you haven't unlocked Special Cup already, it'll be available now.

Choose any character and go to any time trial and finish it without making any mistakes. Now, when you watch the little replay clip of your race, press L or R to make the camera swing around your character.
If you finish three races in the same place, you'll earn an extra continue.
When you have a ghost that you'd like to save in Time Trials, hold L, R, and Y at the menu screen that displays after you've completed a Time Trial race and press X. The name of the course on which the ghost was saved will be highlighted in yellow on the Course Select menu. To race against the ghost you saved, choose the course(the one highlighted in yellow) and hold L or R while pressing B when the screen asks ''Is this OK?'' and the arrow is pointing to ''Yes''.
Select 1P Time Trials and then on the select driver screen, press START on 2nd controller. It will bring up a driver select for COM. Select who you want it to be. You can now race a ghost driver anytime.
This speed boost can occur at the beginning of a race. When the three lights begin to count down, if you press the Acceleration button just before the second light lights up, and you hold it until the race starts, you get a boost of speed. If this speed boost is timed and positioned right, it can easily put you in first place right from the start.

To get these ghosts, you must beat the times listed below.
Luigi Raceway 1'52''00
Mario Raceway 1'30''00
Royal Raceway 2'40''00
Follow the yellow road in Royal Raceway, just after the big jump and to the right. That road will take you to the Mario 64 castle.
To be awarded with a new title screen (and mirror courses) beat the game (get a gold trophy) on 50cc, 100cc and 150cc on Mushroom cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup and Special cup.
On the first or second lap if you get a star you can do this. When you get to the 2nd Railroad tracks turn and go to the tunnel. Just before you enter the tunnel use your star, if you do this right you'll finish the lap and have a shorter 2nd or 3rd lap.
If you use a mushroom you can jump from the big hill just after start to a later part of the track on the left (right in mirror mode). This is very hard to do.
Just after all the roads come to a point, you can jump to a lower track. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes very easy.
#1 - The first shortcut is the sand bar on the right side on the archway. Just go over it and it's a shortcut (and an easy one at that)
#2 - Jump from the top of the ramp just after the archway, you need to have enough speed or you might not make it. A mushroom, star, or a last second power slide helps
#1 - You can take a big shortcut if you jump across the river just after the first big turn. You need a mushroom or a star to do this (it is much harder if you use a star). Aim for the dark spot on the wall, if you do this right you can get towed up onto the big ramp.
#2 - In 150 cc you can jump to the left at the top of the big ramp and land on a bit of dirt near the finish line. If you do this right you will get towed to the finish line. This is very hard.
#1 - When you first start the race, you can jump the wall at the top of the hills, you can shave almost half your time by doing this.
#2 - After the first shortcut you can jump back over the wall and land before the finish line, this is very hard to do. I myself have only done this 2 or 3 times, so don't say it is not posible, it is.

Get the gold trophy in the Special Cup 150cc in Mario GP. You will see the credits roll. After that you will be able to access "Extra" mode in Mario GP, which allows you to play the courses as if they were mirrored.
NOTE: You can't use "Extra" for Battle or Time Trails.

To get a hidden ending in Mario Kart 64, place 4th place overall. This is a lot harder than it sounds because if you place 5th or lower in any one race, you must restart. The easiest way to place 4th overall is just to get 4th place in every race.
______________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________________
To get a boost at the start of the race and an early lead, do not hold the acceleration button before the race. Wait until after the last light flashes, then punch the gas. If you time it just right, you should get a boost that puts you into first place!
If you slip on a banana, and are about to spin out, hit the brakes. You will stop (not spin out), a music note inside a balloon will appear next to your driver, and you will have saved yourself a lot of time.

When you have a Mushroom Turbo boost Power up and you are about to go on a Spring Ramp, Use you're Turbo Boost power up, If you use it JUST BEFORE you go on the ramp/spring You can go much further and faster.
This works on just about every course with a spring/boost on it, but I don't think it is very effective on massive red and yellow ramps...
Once you have an Item and it is scrolling to decide which one you get press ''L'' a few times and the scrolling will stop so you get the Item twice as fast!
On the Player Select screen, press L to make the rotating image of the character you put the cursor on shoot a green shell straight ahead. You can also press R to make that character jump. Do this as many times as you please, it's just a little trick to try if you want.
As in Mario Kart 64, you are able to power slide in this game as well! To perform a power slide, press and hold R to hop while holding Left or Right. When you land, you'll slide in the direction you were holding. After about 2 seconds, let go of the R button and stop sliding. When you drive straight, you'll be given a boost, which is the result of a power slide. It may take a little bit of practice to pull it off, but it helps when trying to get around hairpin turns, or if you want to cut a couple seconds off your time when racing in Time Trial mode.
When you run straight into a Banana or another hazard, you'll notice your kart goes off balance before spinning out totally. To get back on balance before spinning out, release the acceleration and press the brakes (you must do this before you actually spin out, or else it'll be worthless). If you did it correctly, you'll see a music note appear above your character's head, showing you pulled it off successfully.
If you fall off the track or get stuck underwater for more than a couple moments, Lakitu comes to pull you out and place you on the track again. When he picks you up, wait until just before you touch the track again, then press the acceleration and you'll get a turbo boost if you timed it correctly.
To get a turbo boost to give you a head start in the race, do not press/hold the acceleration button before the race. Wait until just before the final light appears, then hold down the accelerator If you time it correctly, you'll be shot ahead, giving you a quick start!

In the balloon battle mode on the Pipe Plaza map. if an enemy hits you into a pipe with their weapon, and you are thrown through the pipe then you will not lose a balloon. Instead, you will come out of the pipe with stars around you and it will appear as though you just drove through the pipe.

If the Goombas on Mario Circuit are hit with a turtle shell, they will be squished into the ground and a boost will fly off them. If a thunderbolt is used on the course, it will squish them all and there will be several boosts lying in that area. It doesn't work the same as the mushroom cars; if you hit a goomba they stay solid and you spin around a bit. Turtle shells are you're best bet.
As you may have noticed on the Mushroom City course, among the traffic are vehicles shaped/colored like the Mushroom items. If you run into them, you don't spin out like you would against other cars; rather a Mushroom is thrown from the back for you to collect/use for a quick boost!
You may have noticed there are a lot of stars on Rainbow Road. And many of them fall. And some of those that fall fall on the track. Where those stars fall, they turn into star items, just sitting there. Some of these are dangerously close to the edge, but if you can get one (esspecially when you're already near the front and there's no other way to get one) it's a nice bonus. Only problem is that they're the same color as banana peels, so be sure before you run over something yellow!
If you fall off the track or get stuck underwater for more than a couple moments, Lakitu comes to pull you out and place you on the track again. When he picks you up, wait until just before you touch the track again, then press the acceleration and you'll get a turbo boost if you timed it correctly.

First, make P1 choose the character you both want to be. Then unselect the character and move off of it. Move P2 over, and select the character. Go back one screen, then go into the character select again. You should both be on the same character. Both of you select the character. Do whatever you want from there on.
Note: In the character select screen and options, whenever one of you does an animation, both of you will. Also, if P2 chooses a different kind of vehicle than P1, P1 will look strange. Don't worry, this won't actually happen in the game.
I haven't tested this with P3 or P4 yet, but in theory, it should work.

When you fall into something, such as water or falling from rainbow road, when you land, if you hit 2 at the moment you hit the ground, you get a temporary boost.
Go into the Mii Channel and change your Mii drivers weight, which will have an in game impact causing you to change weight class and have different cars.
When you see the POW block on your screen and its about to hit you, just do the function you would normally use for a trick to create a shockwave for youself to become immune to the spin out the POW block creates (Control panel on GCN controller, Shaking Wii wheel, etc.). This can be done on both bikes and carts. Even though you don't loose speed or spin out, you still will loose the items you were carrying.
When the countdown starts wait till the 2 starts to disappear and then press and hold the 2 button. So the 2 must still be visible but disappearing.
This will give you a boost at the start of the race.
